SISTRANDA SKOLE Sistranda, NORWAY
Our school is in a small town, called Sistranda. It is the administrative centre of island Frøya. Frøya is named after the goddess Frøya or her brother Frøy. This island on the Trøndelag coast is surrounded by a fantastic archipelago with more than 5,400 islets and reefs. There live about 4500 inhabitants. To reach Frøya it is necessary to pass the Hitra Tunnel that’s one of Europe's deepest tunnels (260 m deep), and further Frøya Tunnel. The school is not so big. Many pupils live in surrounded villages and go to school by bus.
We have about 30 pupils from other countries as Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Thailand, Germany, Russia, Bulgaria and others. Their parents come to work to Frøya and families settle down here. We have to take care of their integration. It is important to do not break any contacts with their home counties, to continue to communicate in their native language. They will have his possibility during this project. The common action will combine different nations, for emigrants it will help to stay in touch with their home countries, for Norwegian pupils it will be a perfect opportunity to get more knowledge about other cultures.
